Solving the Ballast Water Challenge

Solving the Ballast Water Challenge

Merchant ships in the Maritime Industry transport more than 80% of the world's goods. Ballast water provides the balance and stability critical to safe and efficient ship operation. Every year, approximately 3 to 5 billion tons of ballast water are transferred between ports of call around the world.*

Bulk carriers, tankers, container and cargo ships carry an estimated 7,000 different invasive species into foreign waters in their ballast tanks. Major challenges to marine biodiversity have been linked to ballast water discharged with invasive species.

Brisben Water Technologies is exploring applications of Brisben Water Ozonix™ for ballast water treatment in the global maritime industry. The Brisben Water Ozonix™ system has potential to filter and purify ballast water to acceptable levels for safe discharge back into marine environments, without the use of chlorine or other hazardous chemicals, and is proven effective for high-volume applications. Brisben Water's mobile Ozonix system can be easily and cost effectively integrated into ship engine room environments.
