Water Recycling in the Haynesville Shale
Haynesville Shale is a large shale-gas play underlying the U.S. Gulf Coast area. Haynesville is characterized by the black, organic-rich shale of the Upper Jurassic period, and thought to be deposited over 100 million years ago in a shallow offshore environment. Haynesville was not originally considered a potential gas reservoir because of the shale's low permeability. The advent of hydraulic fracturing technology brought this region back into focus. Today, natural gas production in the Haynesville Shale is targeted in the deep shale formation beneath northwestern Louisiana, southwestern Arkansas and eastern Texas regions.
